Live via Satellite to Wexford Opera House - The New York Metropolitan Opera

The first live broadcast to Wexford Opera House took place on
Saturday November 7th 2009 with Puccini's Turandot,
an opera best known for the tenor aria Nessun Forma" made famous by
tenor Luciano Pavarotti. The other eight performances in the upcoming season
will be broadcast in Wexford Opera House on
various week-end dates from November until next May.

Trail Maps Wexford's Past PDF Print E-mail

Wexford's historic Town Trail is now up and running

The 3.3km route around Wexford Town takes thirteen different historic locations and should take about on hour and a half to complete. Wexford was one of thirty six out of one hundred designates "historic towns" to be included in phase one of the initiative to develop Historic Town Trails by providing a range of tourists signage, interprative, orientation and directional signs.

The aim of the project is to maximise the tourism potential of the historic towns in question and enhance the visitors overall expoerience, by developing a nationally coherent, consistent and trustworthy set of pedestrian signs 
This is to ensure that the experience of vbisitros to the various towns is pleasant, stimulating and welcoming and that they can explore an historic town with ease and comfort.

Failte Ireland under the National Development Plan 2007 - 2013 provided funding for the initiative

Liquid Mountain - The Illumination of Wexford Opera House
Best viewing points - Wexford Bridge and Wexford Quays at 10.45pm approx

Following the construction of the world class Wexford Opera House a spectacular lighting feature was commissioned through the "Per Cent for Art" Scheme by the Office of Public Works. The artwork entitled "Liquid  Mountian", created by artist Andrew Kearney, will be unveiled for the first time on September 25th to mark the closing of the inaugural Wexford Culture Night 2009

Acrhitecture awards with Wexford Opera House has achieved to date are:-

  • Bank of Ireland Opus Architecture and Construction Award 2008
  • Irish Theaatre Award 2009 - (Judges Special Awaard)
  • Royal Institute of British Architects Award 2009 - (Buildings in Europe category).
  • The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland Award 2009 - (Best Sultural Building category)
